+ - 1024-bit RSA encryption closed to being hacked

Madas (866312) writes "Scientists are close to cracking 1024-bit RSA encryption. Apparently, a team of researchers working in Europe and Japan have cracked a 307-digit Mersenne number using the special number field sieve method developed by cryptology professor Arjen Lenstra. The scientists think that it will be a cinch to crack 1024-bit RSA encryption using the same method. The security industry shudders!"
